Hey! It's F&F cofounder Bonnie Bryant O'Connor here!
I recently taught a workshop at the Inspire Design Workshop in New Orleans. I was thrilled to be invited by Lulu Alexander of Weddings by Lulu. I was there to teach the designers how to sketch, render, and watercolor a table design.
I was really excited to head to New Orleans, a city that's been on my bucket list forever.
The workshop was at the gorgeous Hotel Mazarin, where we also stayed. It was so pretty!
Lunch was at the Acme Oyster House, which was right across the street. By the time we went to lunch, I'd been up since 3:30 AM New York time and had eaten half a bagel, so I was STARVING. I basically went all out - grilled oysters, chorizo po'boy sandwich, the whole nine yards of the local fare.
After lunch was my workshop session, and I'm not gonna lie - I was SO nervous! However, being a Type-A who overprepares served me well and it went really well. I covered a lot of topics and techniques in the time that I had, and was so thrilled to be able to get to know the attendees better.
After my workshop, I was so lucky to be able to hear from the other presenters, who gave incredible presentations.
We then went to dinner at Compass Point Events and guys - it was INCREDIBLE. Seriously, if I could get married all over again, I'd do it there. It's a big pink house surrounded by historical cottages, with the most gorgeous outdoor dancing under an old tree. The food was beyond, and the decor that Lulu set up was just perfection.
The next morning, I got up early so I could enjoy the city before I left.
On the agenda? Wandering around the French Quarter. Beignets at Cafe du Monde. Shopping at Trashy Diva vintage boutique. A delish minty green juice at Cafe Amelie. Sitting on a bench in Jackson Square to people-watch.
My favorite thing to do when I travel is to just wander around and see the sights - I loved being able to enjoy New Orleans, if only for 24 hours. I can't wait to go back!
